Ulysses S. Grant

The person I am going to be researching about will be Ulysess S. Grant. Prior to researching anything about the famous person I new only about the fact that he was on the fifty dollar bill and that he was a general of the Union army and defeated Robtert E. Lee. I have been curious about Ulysess S. Grant for a long time and after a brieft research of his life I found that I have several questions about him. Firstly, what kind of childhood environment did Grant live and how does this affect him in the future? Also what is Grant's opinion on slavery since some people fought on the Union's side even if they believed that slavery was wrong and did he also believe that slaves are less human than whites like Abraham Lincoln. Since Grant was a general for the Civil War was there any strong feelings that he had against southerners. Finally, what would be Grant's opinion if he were to see how living conditions has improved vastly for African-Americans?

Main Question

Did Grant harbor any feelings against African Americans, such as prejudices?
